Between acting in a biopic, trying to build a parallel career as a singer and performing at awards shows, Priyanka Chopra is busier than ever.
Your Mary Kom biopic is set to clash with Shahid’s next. Does that make you wary?
With her biopic on boxer Mary Kom scheduled to clash with alleged ex-boyfriend Shahid Kapoor’s next (Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider), we ask Priyanka if she is worried.
I’m not aware of it (the clash) since, of late, I’ve been travelling a lot. Besides, I don’t believe in clashes. I’m sure both are great films, from completely different genres. It’s been a great opportunity for me to work on the biopic. And I’m sure Vishal sir (director Vishal Bhardwaj) has also made a superb film. How challenging has it been to play a real-life boxer?
It’s been difficult. And the biggest challenge has been to develop a body that looks like that of a boxer’s. It’s an athletic-yet-masculine look. In our industry, generally, male stars go through physical changes for their roles, while heroines remain the same. But this has been a very different experience. Your latest single has been received well. It seems you’ve figured out the trick to make a hit song.Nahi nahi, abhi maine teen hi gaane banaye hai
(No, till now, I’ve done only three songs). I still have a lot to learn in the universe of music. But it feels great. I was excited and nervous (before the new single). It’s a special song for me, since it’s a cover (of Bonnie Raitt’s ballad, I can’t make you love me) that’s been done by several great artistes in the past. We are trying to work something out. I can’t share details, but something should happen soon. We heard you got hurt a few times while shooting for the Mary Kom biopic.
I can’t move a number of my body parts freely (laughs). I’ve been injured on the ankles, my head, stomach and knees. Both Shraddha Kapoor (who’s sung a song in her new film) and Parineeti Chopra say they have been inspired by you to sing.
I believe that women can do anything. It’s all about making most of the opportunities. And I’m really happy if actresses are doing something apart from acting. Why such a long gap between your second and third singles?
Since I’m busy doing films, too, there has been a big gap. But it’s encouraging to see that, despite the delay, all the songs got amazing response.
