Vishal Bhardwaj had to stall the shooting of Haider temporarily in Anantnag, Kashmir after local residents protested.

Local residents on Thrusday hurled snowballs at the crew of Haider, when they were shooting some sequences in Keribal area, police sources said.

They said that police personnel posted on security duty chased away the protesters, but the crew decided not to shoot at that location. The shooting was later resumed near temple town of Mattan.

HT has learnt that the director recently chose a dangerous neighbourhood to shoot a few scenes. Bhardwaj, who had been scouting for locations, shot in an isolated, apparently dangerous area called Zaina Kadal Bridge in Srinagar.

A source says, "The location was so lovely that Bhardwaj couldn’t give it up. He knew it was dangerous, but after talking to the locals, who were of great help, they shot the scene. Apart from the local police, the locals doubled up as security for the cast and crew."

Bhardwaj confirms the news and says, "We shot at Zaina Kadal Bridge, which is considered inaccessible for any outsider, and the credit goes to the locals, who allowed us to do such a good shoot."

Haider is an adaptation of the Shakespearean tragedy, Hamlet, and is set in the Kashmir Valley.

It stars Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu and Irrfan Khan. The cast and crew are in Srinagar for most of the month to shoot the last leg of the film. They are also likely to shoot at other locations like Nishat Bagh and Pahalgam.

On the whole, the shooting of the film has been peaceful. But two months ago, students of Kashmir University disrupted the filming, objecting to the hoisting of the national flag atop a makeshift bunker. Bhardwaj earlier assured the people of Kashmir that Haider would be "a real depiction of the pain people have gone through in the past two decades."
