Ekk Deewana Tha director Gautham Menon reveals that the screenplay of his film was developed around the music that Oscar winner AR Rahman composed for it. The film is the Hindi adaptation of the Tamil film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (2010). “I had the story and screenplay ready. It’s my first film with Rahman and he was keen to give the music and actually gave more songs than the film required. Listening to the songs, I built a fresh screenplay around them,” says Menon.
Ask him about his choice for the protagonist, and Menon says, “I wanted Prateik because we needed a fresh face for the film. The protagonist here is a bit aggressive. I have changed the character a bit to suit Prateik’s image, since he is very vulnerable and endearing,” says Menon.
The film is an old-school romance, which also features Prateik’s supposed fling, Amy Jackson. “Nowadays, we see a boy and girl fall in love over the Internet. Mine is an old-fashioned love story, but it’s kind of universal love story,” says Menon. The musical love story, Ekk Deewana Tha is set to hit theatres on February 17.
Aditya Kapur in Menon’s next
After bagging roles in films like London Dreams (2009), Action Replayy (2010) and Guzaarish (2010), actor Aditya Roy Kapur is all set to play the lead role in director Gautham Menon’s next.
Talking about his new venture, Menon says, “I am working on another Hindi film after Ekk Deewana Tha.”
The film, yet untitled, will be a romantic comedy with Aditya paired opposite south actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu. “Almost 60 per cent of the shoot is done, and hopefully it will be ready for release by May,” says Menon.
