There are times when actors get carried away in their zeal to opt for a realistic way to prepare for their roles. But when actor Shefali Shah spent a day with an under-trial criminal as her homework for Kucch Luv Jaisaa, her co-actor Rahul Bose not only got upset, but also had a showdown with her.

Shefali’s character in the movie directed by Barnali Shukla bumps into a criminal on the run, played by Rahul and due to some circumstances, she ends up spending the day with him.

So to understand how a commoner behaves around a criminal on the run, the actor headed to Thane Jail a few days before the shoot began. “Shefali spent a day with a man who was under trial for murder. When the crew learnt about her risky move, everybody began talking about it. But Rahul was most upset. He felt it was irrational and unnecessary for her to do what she did,” recalls a unit member.

The issue didn’t end there. Rahul voiced his anger and told Shefali that the exercise wasn’t needed, as she is a natural at acting.
“She felt it was essential for her to understand and perform her character better. But he stood his ground, terming her exercise as irrational and risky,” he adds.

However, seems like Shefali had the last word, as she was not harmed. Shefali concedes, “Rahul was worried and still thinks it was foolish of me to visit the jail.” While she admits that she’s not an advocate of method acting, she maintains, “I strongly felt that I needed to spend a day to understand the psyche of the under-trial for my character.”
