Akshay Kumar tried it with Blue (2009), Aamir Khan did too in his last release Talaash (2012) and now Shah Rukh Khan is about to take a dip. For his upcoming film, Happy New Year, the actor will be shooting scenes underwater. And director Farah Khan has spared no expense by roping in Italian cinematographer and underwater cameraman Franz Pagot for the film.
“I am working in the next Shah Rukh Khan film. It definitely has underwater scenes with him. I’ll be here mostly through Christmas,” says Franz, who has also worked on Talaash and Warning 3D. The cinematographer was in Goa to attend a workshop held at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2013.
Franz had to sneak out of IFFI for a day to meet SRK and Farah and discuss the plan of action. “I had a meeting (with them) regarding the logistics. My presence is required for 14 days. They are still planning the shooting dates, but we discussed some shots. I think it (the underwater sequence) will be shot in India,” says Franz.
Ask him if he feels that the scenes will be shot in 3D and he says, “I can’t answer that right now. But I don’t think so.” Franz has some more film offers in India, but he feels that 3D cinematography in India has a long way to go. “I have got a couple more offers. I think the talent you have here is fantastic, but what needs to change is the producers’ mentality. They say add something that would serve the film and help sell tickets, without really knowing that 3D is not just an add-on," says Franz.
