Women of Worth (WOW), an organisation that initiated the campaign Dark Is Beautiful earlier this year against Indian society's prejudice against dark skin, say they have sent letters (copies of which are with HT) to Shah Rukh Khan and a fairness product brand, along with a petition signed by 22,000 people, to stop their ads.
In the letter, they urge Shah Rukh to "lead the change by saying 'no' to unfair advertising".
When asked, SRK’s spokesperson said they haven’t received the letter.
Meanwhile, Kavitha Emmanuel, founder and director of WOW, says, "We will address other ads too. We are not against Shah Rukh… but this is a starting point." Nandita Das
who features in the said ad was unavalaible for comment.
Earlier this year, when Nandita became the face of the Dark Is Beautiful campaign — that protests against skin colour bias — it got a lot of attention.
