Filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who is helming the biopic on late Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, says that he has approached Amitabh Bachchan, for the title role. “We have given him the script to read. He liked it. The moment the film is finalised we will announce it,” he says.
The filmmaker also wants to cast Sonakshi Sinha in a pivotal role. The film, titled Sarabjit, has been written by Rajesh Beri and will be directed by Ishwar Singh Muchhal. Sarabjit Singh, who was sentenced to death by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, breathed his last on May 2.
Ghai, who has acquired permissions from late prisoner Sarabjit Singh’s family to make the biopic on him, says his is an extraordinary tale of determination. “His sister, Dalbir Kaur’s struggle is more inspirational. For 22 years, she fought for his freedom with an undying spirit. The film’s heroine’s character is inspired by Dalbir,” says Ghai. Meanwhile, Ghai is also producing two other films — Ishq De Maare and Idiot Nalayak Useless. “We have worked hard to make a story bank. Fortunately, we have wonderful scripts. When you have a story bank, you send the scripts to the stars and the directors, and then you assemble the team,” says Ghai, who is bringing Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby Deol together on the big screen with the family comedy, Ishq De Maare. He, claims that his film will not be along the lines of Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 (YPD 2).
“It’s more of a humourous film rather than a comedy. The Deols committed to my film a year ago, before they were making YPD 2. This film is about a father and his sons. They are from a conservative family. They fall in love but can’t express their feelings. That’s when the hide-and-seek games starts,” he says.
