Kamasutra 3D is in contention for Oscar nominations, and the film’s director, Rupesh Paul, says that the film industry that frowned upon him earlier, has now changed its stance.

“The Mumbai industry tagged Kamasutra 3D as a B-grade porn film and us as porn filmmakers. That’s how the industry started to supported us with the release of the first trailer.”

However, that changed. “As we released the second trailer of our movie, the reactions changed drastically. The film started getting compared with the making techniques of Hollywood movies like 300 and Pirates of the Caribbean. But now with the Oscar news flash, all those frowns have changed to hugs and kisses,” he says.

Reacting to the ‘soft porn tag’ that many gave the film, he says, “I would just say that it is a big conspiracy against us. Maybe people who claimed it to be a porn flick, wished to get something of that sort out of it. But to their biggest disappointment, the Oscars have changed the entire scenario and snubbed off their wishes. They are just a minority whose faces have had the tightest slap.”

About the buzz around Sherlyn Chopra’s over the top exposure in the film, he says, “As you see there is a section of fans for Kareena Kapoor, another section for Sonakshi Sinha, so is there a fan section for Sherlyn. The requirement was unique and we were just trying to keep to the expectations of that section. At the same time we had to do justice to the storyline. So Sherlyn has been portrayed in a much needed sensuous manner, balancing the classy factor.”
