Ranveer Singh has always been looked upon as someone who is incapable of mincing his words. But of late, that aspect of his personality seems to have changed.
The actor, who is allegedly in a relationship with Deepika Padukone, now guards his personal life fiercely. Here, he tells us why.
We heard that you were dancing without any clothes in your hotel room in Spain?
Actually, I couldn’t wait to hear the song [penned by Gulzar]. It was in my email, but since you get Wi-Fi only in the hotel, I started to download the song once I reached [my room]. Co-incidentally - at the same time — I took off my clothes. At that instant, downloading was completed. I didn’t realise it, and instantly started dancing. It was only then that I realised that the door and the windows of the room were open, and that I was dancing naked on the balcony. It was damn funny (laughs).

You just had Gulzar writing lyrics for you for an ad.
Shaad Ali, who has directed the ad, roped in Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Gulzar saab. When he told me on SMS, I was like, ‘arrey, kamaal ho gaya.’ So Gulzar saab has written the lyrics, and I have written a few lines, and rapped to them.
How do you handle reading about your personal life in the papers?
I don’t particularly like it. But whenever I whine about it, I’m told, ‘You are a public figure now and this comes with the territory.’ And I understand that; I just don’t like to encourage it.
Have you wondered why your life makes it to the news this often?
We are artistes and we are part of this industry to entertain people; the focus should be on that. I don’t consider my personal life as interesting and exciting as people make it out to be. I have a normal life. I wake up, go to work, come back and eat my food before going to sleep. What’s so exciting and glamorous about that?
These days, you and Deepika are mostly mentioned together…
Well, I would like to believe that I have an identity of my own. Everyone works towards creating an individual identity, and I think people should respect that.
You’re evidently more politically correct now…
You (the media) have put me in this situation, where I have to give you such answers. I have learnt my lessons in the three and a half years [I have spent in the industry]. I have learnt all the tricks now.
Recently, you were spotted with Deepika in Europe…
Again, you are asking me about personal stuff. I have already told you I don’t like it. I would not like to encourage it from my end. I wouldn’t like to say anything at all about my personal life.
Is it because Deepika Padukone and you have been constantly in the news?
It’s not a question of Deepika or any other person. I don’t want to talk about anything that falls under the realm of my personal life, because it encourages the same thing again and again. It doesn’t make any sense at all.
Personally or professionally, do you think you are in a good space right now?
Touch wood, everything is fine after a long time. I am in a very good phase. When I wake up in the morning, I am brimming with happiness. Be it personally, professionally or health-wise — which is most important — everything feels good. I hope it goes on.
Do you agree that you have the image of a Casanova?
I don’t like the concept of [having an] image only. If you label someone as a Casanova or something else, you are limiting their personality. We just shouldn’t judge like that.
