Spring is about to set in and it’s not just your wardrobe that needs that fresh spring feeling. It’s time to welcome the whiff of the season into your house too. Experts predict that the trend for the spring verges towards juicy hues and big bold patterns. Shalini Singh, interior decorator, says,

“International decor exhibitions have shown that this spring it’s time to bring in the tutti frutti hues and give a skip to the nudes, pastels and winter dark colours like brown, wine, charcoal, etc.” Start by throwing away the boring white pillows. Exchange them for cheery cushions. Invest in a bright coloured sofa and some floral print curtains. Bring a dash of excitement with interesting accessories like a ceramic, floral or a technicolour table lamp. Interior designer Bobby Aggarwal says, “Spring is all about colours, so reach out for colourful candle holders or bright table runners.”

The colours that will create a lot of buzz this season are anything from aubergine to green. “Yellows, greens, aubergine have been used extensively for the spring designs to usher in the spirit to living spaces,” says Mukesh Kumar of Kanu Kitchen Kulture.

Spring it the right way
Say it with flowers: An easy and pocket-friendly way to bring home spring is through flowers. Use them in vases, or even for the centre table decoration .

Throw away the heavy fabrics: It’s time to get rid of heavy upholstery and curtains. Invest in fabrics like cotton, sheer and lace. Choose from pretty floral prints to eye-catching geometric patterns in bright hues.

Slip into slip covers: Another easy way to remove heavy linens is to make use of slipcovers to cover sofas, instead of heavy upholstery.

Wall it: You can even add some interesting wall hangings, bright lacquered cabinets or art to otherwise boring walls. Also use large sized mirrors wherein maximum light can reflect. This would make your room look bright and spacious. Whatever you plan to do, make sure you don’t deck your house with too many little bright spring items. Always keep in mind, less is more.
