Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone will walk the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival for the first time. She will be attending the premiere of the French film Tournee (On Tour) directed by Mathieu Amalric, that’s competing for the top Cannes prize, the Palme d’Or, in the Competition section.
“I will be representing India at the Cannes Film Festival and attending the red carpet premiere of Tournée,” she reveals. “This is my first time at the Cannes or any other film festival. I am very excited,” she says. Reportedly, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Mallika Sherawat are also heading for Cannes. Though the festival ends on May 23, Deepika is scheduled to be there only for a day.
“Due to time constraints and my film schedules, I’ll be there for just one day, but I’ll cherish each moment,” she adds. Deepika will be dressed in an outfit created by Rohit Bal. “I’ve been a huge fan of Rohit’s work since my modelling days and have done a couple of ramp shows for him. My styling will be done by Anaita Shroff Adajania,” she states.
Asked about what she will do with the dress after the event, she says, “If the opportunity arises, I would love to give it to a charity.”says Bal, “The ivory-coloured sari designed for Deepika is worn over a slightly contemporary petticoat. The outfit is traditional and very glamorous, and also has a modern and sexy feel to it. We chose it together. No other Bollywood or any other star has ever worn a sari on the red carpet.”
