Ad gurus rate real life showbiz couples who appeared together in small screen commercials.
John Abraham — Bipasha Basu: 7/10
Brand endorsed: Clinic All Clear
Chemistry: Bipasha and John have not really been able to sizzle the ad world with their shampoo commercial, where John tries to catch hold of Bipasha through her hair. The two reportedly signed the commercial for Rs 3-4 crore.
Expert speak: “Though both are attractive, that usually works in their favour whenever they work for a personal hygiene product like a shampoo, but their individual appeal is perhaps much more than their couple appeal,” says ad guru Alyque Padamsee.
Gauri — Shah Rukh Khan: 8.5/10
Brand endorsed: D’Décor
Chemistry: Featuring Gauri Khan and her superstar husband Shah Rukh Khan, this ad shows a regular day in the life of the star
couple. Reportedly, they got paid around R10 crore for the commercial.
Expert speak: “SRK and Gauri are good examples of perfect homemakers and that gets conveyed through the ad,” says Anil Wanvari, founder and CEO, indiantelevision.com group.
Jaya — Amitabh Bachchan: 8/10
Brand endorsed: Tanishq
Chemistry: The ad has Big B trying to make his ‘difficult to please’ wife happy on her birthday by gifting her diamond jewellery.
Expert speak: “Jaya and Amitabh bring with them lot of strong family values that adds to their appeal in this ad,” says ad guru Alyque Padamsee.
Kajol — Ajay Devgn: 7.5/10
Brand endorsed: Whirlpool, Tata Indicom, Sangini
Chemistry: The couple, who has done many ad campaigns over the years, were reportedly paid Rs 4-5 crore for an ad.
Expert speak: “While Kajol is bubbly and outgoing, Ajay is reserved, but they both compliment each other, that works for the brand they endorse,” says Prasoon Joshi, executive chairman, McCann World Group.
Aishwarya — Abhishek Bachchan: 7/10
Brand endorsed: Lux
Chemistry: The ad has Aishwarya playing a naughty trick and trying to mesmerise Abhishek, who can’t seem to resist her. The couple were reportedly paid a whopping Rs12-13 crore.
Expert speak: “Even when these two got married, Aishwarya was certainly a bigger name than Abhishek. She continues to outshine him and this is quite visible even in this ad,” says Anil Wanvari.
Kareena Kapoor —Saif Ali Khan: 7.5/10
Brand endorsed: Airtel and Metro Shoes
Chemistry: The much-in-love couple made their relationship public through a series of Airtel ads and it was the Metro Shoes campaign that consolidated their relationship further in public memory. The couple was reportedly paid a price of Rs 6-7 crore.
Expert speak: “There is a level of mystery and chemistry about them. They both are similar in many ways. They are fun loving and desirable and bring that factor even in their ads,” says Prasoon Joshi.
