These Hollywood celebrities have struggled with life-threatening illnesses, but came out trumps eventually.

Sheryl Crow: Breast Cancer
Singer Sheryl Crow was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer in February 2006, and recovered from the same by minimally invasive surgery and radiation therapy. But last year, she was diagnosed with a brain tumour when she went to a hospital to be tested after she was experiencing memory loss. According to Crow, her fans need not to worry, as the tumour is benign. It is unclear whether Crow will undergo surgery to remove the tumour.

Michael Douglas: Throat Cancer
The 67-year-old actor confessed about his cancer in 2010, and took up a brave fight with the disease since then. Though his throat cancer had reached a dangerously late stage, after seven weeks of intense radiation and chemotherapy, he got cured of his cancer.

He is now under constant medical attention and if no recurrence is reported till three years, he will be declared completely cured. The actor’s voice remains as it was, but his salivary ducts have been shut down as result of the radiation, and he has to struggle with a very dry mouth.

Cynthia Nixon: Breast Cancer
Actor Cynthia Nixon, who is best known for her role as the no-nonsense lawyer Miranda Hobbes in the hit TV series, Sex And The City, has not only experienced breast cancer herself, but also saw her mother battle it when she was just 12 years old.

Nixon, 46, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. She initially decided not to go public with her illness because of the stigma involved with it. But, she made an announcement about it in 2008, and since then, has been an active breast cancer activist.

Simon Cowell: Bronchitis
The English television producer is popularly known for judging hit reality shows, such as Britain’s Got Talent, American Idol and The X Factor. Known for his blunt and often controversial criticisms, insults and wisecracks about contestants and their abilities, Cowell, 52, has been recently diagnosed with bronchitis, and thus had to skip the latest season of The X Factor. He has taken a break to rest at home.

Kylie Minogue: Breast Cancer
The Australian singer and actor was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2005, but at the end of February of 2011, she celebrated five years of being completely cured from the illness. Minogue underwent breast surgery and chemotherapy as treatment for the disease. The pop star has been voted the most inspirational breast cancer star for her willingness to speak openly and honestly about dealing with the disease.
