Highlight Story

Even before their third movie has reached the finishing line, director Sudhir Mishra has roped in Chitrangada Singh for his next, tentatively titled Driver. To be produced by Ekta Kapoor, the film is believed to take off later this year, after Dil Darbadar releases in October.

Driver is a love story about a younger man, who plays a chauffeur to a high profile businessman’s mistress, a couple of years older. Confirming the news, Mishra says that there’s more to the story than just the relationship between the lead characters. “It’s about power, corruption and politics in the high society circles, set in Delhi,” he says, refusing to reveal more since it’s still in the scripting stage.

On choosing Singh as the leading lady, Mishra says that she perfectly fit the bill. But he’s not narrowed down to any hero as of yet. “I can think of that only after I’ve completed the writing. Sometimes the kind of dialogue in the movie decides which actor suits the role best,” Mishra says.

Cast perfect
At the moment, Mishra is pleased with the experience of working with Irrfan Khan in Dil Darbadar. “It’s the first time I’ve worked with him and he’s brilliant. I’m equally enthusiastic about the music by the new entrant Nishad Khan,” he informs.

The director, who has given break to many a newcomer, is glad that all those who debuted in his films have made it big.
“Chitrangada was new when I cast her in Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi, and so was Shiney Ahuja. Today, everyone wants to sign her.
Even Shiney went on to win all the debutant awards… what happened later on, no one could foresee,” says the director, who also introduced music composers like Sandesh Shandilya, Shantanu Moitra and lyricist Swanand Kirkire.

Talking of Dil Darbadar, he’s also positive about Arunoday Singh. “Vinay Shukla saw a spark in him in Sikander and cast him in Mirch. Even Anil Kapoor is all praises for his cameo in Aisha,” he asserts.

First cut leak
Meanwhile, Mishra is hoping that Tera Kya Hoga Johnny, his film with Neil Nitin Mukesh, Soha Ali Khan and Shahana Goswami, sees the light of the day soon. The first cut of the film was leaked out on the Internet a few months ago. “It’s unfortunate that the first cut was leaked on YouTube. It’s up to the producers to take a call on the release date. It’s frustrating when your film’s release is jeopardised. That’s why I’m producing Dil Darbadar myself,” he concludes
