It was when I was chosen as an MTV VJ back in 1997 that my love affair - both with Delhi and the
- really began. I remember being interviewed by
and how warm and welcoming the staff was (I also remember posing for pictures in a very 'Yo' way because that was what everyone expected of the fresh, new, bubbly MTV VJ!). It was great fun!
I was a young, carefree person who loved to travel and eat and what better place than Delhi to do that! Khan market was my favourite haunt (there was a
at the end, I recall); I have picked up tiles for my house from Noida, tons of fabric from Fabindia, pots for my garden from Saundha, knick-knacks from Delhi Haat; and of course, no visit to Delhi was complete without a stroll through Santushti!
Doing interviews with the
was a part of life in Delhi and slowly, very slowly, I started feeling like a part of the HT family, especially
without with my Sunday just isn't complete. Brunch is informative, fun, philosophical, entertaining, tech-savvy…and all that in just a few pages! There's fantastic personalities like Vir Sanghvi, Seema Goswami, Sanjoy Narayan and Rajiv Makhni on board and now that Brunch finally has it's own website, it will be even better!
I will soon be sharing new recipes right here from Maria's Kitchen! I hope everyone joins in and has fun. I love eating and I love cooking even more. I love to see the joy on people's faces when they savour a morsel. I started cooking really late in life but I love it as much as I love dancing.
Here's something that just struck me: besides my parents, my kids, my immediate family and Arshad who are all Mumbai
, my most treasured friends, Mini Mathur, Sandhya Mridul, Jaya Chaturvedi, Ritambhara, Shaheen Abbas (who I met through Roshan Abbas) are all from Delhi! So joining the
family is a karmic connection - I'm super excited!
