Rising fuel prices forcing you to leave your car behind at home? Here’s a solution that is easy on the wallet and benefits your health too. CycleChalao, the group that started a bicycle rental service that is currently operational at Bandra railway station, is now offering cycles on rent for an entire month for just Rs 300. The programme is open to seniors as well as the young crowd returning to colleges when they reopen next week.
Freedom on wheels
“We want all college kids to have a bicycle and therefore, their own means of transportation. But this scheme is also open to anyone who is environment conscious,” says Jaydeep Masurekar of CycleChalao, who admits that group’s plan to start cycle rentals at all railway stations along the western line was not as successful as expected and was one of the factors that sparked off this scheme. The hire system kicked off on June 22 and CycleChalao’s members will soon be visiting campuses around the city to create awareness about the new scheme.
To rent a cycle for a month, all you need to do is register with CycleChalao. The renting cost is Rs 300 but you also need to shell out an additional Rs 300 as security deposit. This money will be refunded once the rental period is over. You also need to provide a copy of your PAN Card, driver’s license or similar document as identity proof. Minors can provide their parents’ details to avail of the scheme. Once registered, you can pick your cycle from Bandra railway station. “We have around 20 cycles but the choice is restricted,” says Masurekar, adding, “The bicycles are in good working condition, but in case there is a problem with them, we can exchange it for you at no extra cost.”
And in case of a mass order, the members are also willing to go that extra mile and deliver it to their hirer’s doorstep.
