Football star David Beckham and popstar Cheryl Cole are the celebrities best suited to be role models for the youth of UK, according to a new survey. While Churchill and Shakespeare had figured on the list earlier, the football heartthrob and 'Girls Aloud' singer topped the list by a large margin this year, reported Daily Mail online.
The National Mentoring Initiative interviewed 2,000 men and women for the survey and 55 per cent said the former England soccer captain was a good role model, while Cole came second in the poll, with 40 per cent rating her positively.
However, not everyone believes that Beckham is someone to look up to, with 18 per cent saying he sets a bad example and 27 per cent regarded Cole as a bad role model.
Cole who is married to footballer Ashley Cole, was convicted in 2003 of assaulting a nightclub worker and was sentenced to 120 hours of unpaid community service.
Beckham has been the subject of lurid allegations over his private life including claims he had an affair with private secretary Rebecca Loos, while his wife Victoria was pregnant.
