English footballer David Beckham reportedly has developed a secret fantasy for cigars.
The 34-year-old midfielder for LA Galaxy moved to the garden after he was was told by wife and former Spice girl Victoria not to smoke in their LA mansion because he has acquired a taste for luxury hand-rolled Cuban cigars, The Sun reported online.
"He loves the taste. I think he likes the image too. Lots of Hollywood stars smoke them. It's strange to see such an athlete as Becks smoking. But he doesn't have any other vices. Of course, he only smokes the best, they're usually fifty-dollar-a-pop Cohibas," a friend close to him told the paper.
The news comes as a strange surprise as the sportstar was only recently pictured using an asthma inhaler.
"The smoking is just his way of relaxing as he nears the end of his career. There is no doubt he is very fit for his age and takes exceptional care of himself," the pal added.
However, the footballer's spokesman made a bid to downplay Beckham's fondness of cigars insisting it was not true to describe him as a smoker.
"He may have had a puff on a cigar once or twice in the past to make a celebration but that is it," Beckham's spokesman said.
