The Delhi University’s official Facebook page goes online today. Only, as you read this, the University may be facing the last-minute dilemma of what that page will be called!
Pages called ‘Delhi University’ and ‘University of Delhi’ already exist on the social networking website, so while the authorities were planning their official page in order to assist students in the admission process, they ran into a problem with what to call it.
“The name Delhi University is already taken by someone, so we are working out other options like DU.Facebook or DU@ facebook,” said Ajay Gupta, director, Computer Centre, who is handling the university’s Facebook page.
“We have written to the Facebook authorities, but there has been no response from them till now. If nothing works out, we have to go with the options that we have decided on,” Gupta told us over the weekend.
The page will have a logo of Delhi University as its profile picture. “All DU aspirants can join this page,” said JM Khurana, dean of students’ welfare. “They can post comments, ask questions regarding admissions and cut-off lists. Students and teachers can interact and share ideas here,” he added. The link to this page will be available on the DU website, too, and it will be updated regularly. “The page will be updated with all the news on the DU website,” said Gupta.
