Indian celebrities such as actor Rajeev Khandelwal, music director Sneha Khanwalkar and reality-show host Raghu Ram are joining forces with Hollywood celebs in the wordwide Greenpeace campaign to save the Arctic.

“I have joined hands to show my solidarity with them in saving the Arctic and in an effort to save the world from a colossal calamity, “ says Khandelwal.

Adds Ram, “Big oil companies are gearing up to drill for oil in the Arctic — one of the last undamaged places on Earth. Can you picture a North Pole without ice? Imagine what would happen to polar bears if there’s an oil spill. We simply cannot sit back and let this fragile environment be wrecked by an oil spill!”

The campaigners, including bigshots Paul McCartney, Robert Redford, Penelope Cruz and Dev Patel are demanding a ban on oil drilling and unsustainable fishing in Arctic waters. The campaign was launched on Thursday at the Rio Earth Summit.
