Ekta Kapoor has been voted into Forbes magazine’s ‘Asia Power Businesswomen’ list. At 36, she’s the youngest in 50 corporate game changers. “I’m honoured and humbled,” says Ekta, adding, “I’m in the company of women like Chanda Kochhar (CEO and MD, ICICI Bank) and Kiran Shaw-Mazumdar (Chairman and MD, Biocon Limited) whom I’ve looked up to.”

Quiz Ekta on her success formula and she repeats dad Jeetendra’s words: “Success or failure, nothing is permanent. So just put your best foot forward,” she smiles. “There was a time when I was written off. They said my shows were dated. Today I’m amongst Asia’s top businesswomen. Shocking!”

She credits mom Shobhaa, and recalls how she kept the budget of The Dirty Picture (2011) down to make it ‘safe’ for the company’s shareholders, reassuring director Milan Luthria and her that their gamble would pay off. She says, “Whatever good has happened is because of her.”
