Over the last week, Esha Deol was busy with ceremonies for her wedding, leading up to D-Day yesterday. But even in the middle of all this, when animal rights activist and BJP MP Maneka Gandhi approached her to be the face of a campaign to save animals, she instantly said ‘yes’. A source close to Esha’s mother, actor Hema Malini, reveals that Maneka wanted someone young and enthusiastic to take on the responsibility for the cause.
“Hemaji was excited to hear that Maneka wanted Esha to be the face for a campaign to help endangered animals,” says the source. Esha was busy, but younger sister Ahana confirmed the news, saying, “Esha has been offered the role of brand ambassador, and she is taking it.” The source also reveals that this campaign is not associated with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
“This is an independent campaign that will work towards the protection of animals and the betterment of their conditions,” says the source. Recently, Hema herself took up the cause of animals used for entertainment. She had written to municipal commissioner Jairaj Phatak seeking a ban on horse-pulled carts in Mumbai. Esha will now be travelling with husband Bharat Takhtani. “She will be back after a month and then she will take this up,” says Ahana.
