It’s a chance most filmmakers can only dream of — getting actors Amitabh Bachchan and Sir Ben Kingsley in the same frame. And when filmmaker Leena Yadav donned the director’s cap for
, a film starring the two legends, all she had to do is watch the two perform. “After discussing the scene with them, I used to simply fix my camera and watch. Both Mr Bachchan and Sir Kingsley were so graceful, humble and had immense mutual respect for each other.”
Although there had been speculation about the presence of international stars, including Pierce Brosnan, in the film, Yadav dismisses it as mere rumours. “It was all in the air. We contacted Ben Kingsley through his agent, he read the script and agreed. His character is that of a legendary mathematician and Mr Bachchan’s character looks up to him.”
Responding to Kingsley’s comments that he enjoyed working with Yadav and that he likes being directed by women, Yadav, who has earlier directed the film
, says, “I am so humbled. It is very gracious of him to say that. Usually, it takes months to form a director-actor bond. He handed me his trust blindly and made me more responsible.”
The film also features Raima Sen and R Madhavan and marks the debut of four actors, including Shakti Kapoor’s daughter Shraddha. “It was a challenge to direct so many actors together, but we also had a lot of fun on the sets. Madhavan is a complete prankster. The moment he is off camera, he is up to mischief,” she says.
