Rishi Kapoor’s new look — he plays a 90-year-old grandfather — from his next film, Kapoor & Sons, has earned a lot of attention. Kapoor looks unrecognisable. Now, the team is all set to release their next song, Buddhu sa mann, in which Kapoor will be seen partying with his co-stars and a cut-out of former actor Mandakini.
Starring rumoured couple Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra , and Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, Kapoor and Sons is a modern family drama. The film is being directed by Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu director Shakun Batra and Karan Johar has produced it.
Speaking about the track, director Shakun Batra says, “In the film, the song takes place on his 90th birthday, and the family comes together for the celebration. Kapoor’s character is holding a Mandakini cut-out because he’s an ardent fan of the actor, and his grandsons (played by Sidharth Malhotra and Fawad Khan) know that there would be no better gift for him than that.”
The song’s shoot was nothing short of a party. In fact, a lot of people in the song are residents of Coonoor (Tamil Nadu), where the film is shot. Shakun says, “The people in the video are not junior artistes, but families who live there. They happily agreed to be part of the song. We played loud music, and let people drink and enjoy.”
Shakun adds that Kapoor “is a fantastic actor”. He says, “It took a lot of effort for him to wake up at 6am, get his make-up done and be ready by 11am. But he would come on the sets and give it his all.”
The much-awaited first trailer of the Karan Johar film was released earlier in February.
One of attractive features of the trailer was the high emotional quotient that brings out the problems of a dysfunctional family. Rishi Kapoor plays the patriarch of the family who wants to see his entire family together before he dies, but this seems to be a difficult task as Fawad and Sidharth, who’re playing brothers, have an old score to settle. There are hints in the trailer that suggest that Alia Bhatt could be the bone of contention between the two.
