It is our 65th Independence Day, but the spirit of freedom is young like it never was. Testimony are the new breed of young actors in Bollywood and the many young Indians who are out to keep this spirit alive in their own fields.
The newest faces of this independent, fearless attitude are Alia Bhatt, 19, Siddharth Malhotra, 24, and Varun Dhawan, 23, who star in Karan Johar’s upcoming film,
Student of The Year (SOTY). Asked what change they’d like to see in the country, the three come up with vital points. “Our country has evolved a lot but I don't like the current situation vis-à-vis women. For example, whatever happened in Assam was deplorable. It really upsets me. So, I feel the role of women should be supported in the society,” says Alia. Varun seconds that. “You heard about the Andheri murder case about that guy Reuben? He was a friend of mine. Women's safety is a very grave matter in our country and if we as Indians don't stand up for it then it will be terrible. I want to see a safer India for women.”
For Siddharth, it’s bringing up sports. “I was watching the Olympics, and it was really sad. Whoever won the medals never thanked the government or authorities, and that's because they never helped the athletes.”
