He started out as assistant to ace photographer Atul Kasbekar and in the last decade has built up an impressive portfolio that includes Hollywood star Angelina Jolie. “I’m the only Indian photographer to have shot her,” he points out, adding that he has also done the promotional stills for 35 Bollywood films, including Saawariya, Ta Ra Rum Pum and Jannat.

‘So real… And also surreal’
We were on the sets of Saawariya, the Clifton Hotel was in the background. Debutant Sonam Kapoor was walking towards the camera, speaking her lines. Click! I’d captured the moment on film. It looked so real… And also surreal. Sonam is a great model, spontaneous and versatile, with a smile that just lights up the sets!

angelina‘Imran is a lot like Aamir’

We were shooting a song for Kidnap. The lighting was brilliant and Imran, along with director Sanjay Gadhvi, coaxed me do a series. Imran is a lot like his ‘maamu’ Aamir Khan and on his way to evolving into a perfect actor. He’s not into modelling but great at role-playing. He knows what he wants, and will go all out to ensure that you deliver it!

‘Lighthouse by the sea…’
We were in the Bahamas to film Blue. There was this beautiful lighthouse by the sea, clouds sailing through the sky and Lara Dutta stunning in cool casuals. The moment and the mood were right and with a willing model, I just went click, clickety click. Lara may be selfish as far as good roles go, but as a person she’s completely selfless. No pretensions and no tantrums. I just love her nose…

‘Akshay urged me to dive in’
Akshay was in the ocean. I was poised with my camera at the edge of the boat. He urged me to get into scuba wear and dive in. I did. He held up the boat. He was in prime physical condition and the muscles on his back rippled. The tattoo, ‘Aarav’, inked across announced to the world how much he loves his son.

‘I got just 10 minutes’
I was approached for a celebrity shoot in Paris. I was only told to be at the suite of a five-star hotel at 9.45 am sharp, clueless about the model. It was only when Angelina Jolie walked in that I knew I’d landed a coup. She came alone, without any entourage, as casual as the girl-next-door. I got just 10 minutes. Everyone loves the pictures but I know they weren’t my best work. If only I’d got a little more time. God, how I love those lips!
