Today is the day Mahatma Gandhi was born in Porbandar, Gujarat. It is a day for Gandhiana: to learn of and remember the life and teachings of this exceptional man. You can of course go to Raj Ghat, the site of his cremation, to pay homage.
But don't forget to visit the nearby Gandhi Smiriti Museum. You needn’t spend even a rupee to view Gandhi's personal belongings, and the bullets that killed him. Around 150 visitors come here daily to learn of him. The museum boasts of one of the world's best libraries on Gandhi’s life and philosophy.
Also go to Delhi's Valimiki Colony, Mandir Marg. Mahatma Gandhi lived in a small room there for a total of 214 days during 1946-1947. He purposely chose this place, so as to live along side 'untouchables'. This small room is historic - Gandhi hosted several crucial meetings of the Congress party here. The members of the Cripps Mission came here to meet him. Today, a visitor can still feel Gandhi's presence in the room. Gandhiana exists here.
