If you’re a stand-up comedy fan, head to the Naked Comedy Festival today, as Indian funnymen and women regale you with their jokes and witty one-liners. With the likes of Papa CJ and Sorabh Pant in the house, it promises a heavy dose of laughter.

The festival, a maiden venture of Bonobo Productions, will showcase the acts by 10 Indian comics over two days. The line-up features both established and upcoming talent from the country including Abish Mathew, Neville Shah and Neeti Palta from Delhi, along with Aditi Mittal, Varun Grover and Kunal Rao, who have performed previously with the city’s popular comic, Vir Das.

The spotlight will also shine on Shaun Williams and his theatre group, The Cellar Doors, as they present their comic sketch ‘How They Would Have Done It’ at the event. Says Williams, “We always say that maybe Danny Boyle would have directed a film better. Or maybe Amitabh Bachchan would have suited the role. My group and me will re-interpret a movie scene, and the way other actors and director would have done it.”

Ask popular Delhi comedian Papa CJ, who recently performed in Mumbai, about whether he is bringing something new this time round and he says, “I have no fixed plan of what I’m doing. I’ll just chat to the audience and create laughter from thin air,” adding, “I might just strip on the stage. After all, it’s a naked comedy fest and somebody should strip down. I’ve also bought a special bra for the occasion.”

The event, which will be hosted by theatre personality Ashwin Mushran, will also incorporate a curated bazaar with professional clowns and stilt walkers.
