The sizzling chemistry between Hrithik Roshan and his Kites co-star Barbara Mori lives on. How explosive they are together was in evidence when they appeared at the Cannes film fest last evening to promote their film.

Will this set tongues wagging again? Father Rakesh Roshan, speaking to HT Cafe from Cannes, refused to even acknowledge the possibility. “Why should I be disturbed?” he said, though sounding more vehement than couldn’t-care-less. “When I know there’s nothing, then I don’t have to be upset or disturbed. There is no fire,” added Roshan Sr, who unveiled the first look of the film at Cannes along with the rest of the Kites team.

Susanne had recently felt compelled to clarify to the media that “nothing could break my marriage”, and subsequent rumours claimed that there was a lot of strain between the father and the son over Hrithik’s closeness to Barbara during the shoot.

Judging by the film stills, the shoot got quite steamy. Hrithik has said as much in an interview with IANS. He said that once he was required to kiss her before a death-defying stunt. “I kissed her on the cheek.” Barbara turned around to ask why I had kissed her on the cheek. “Given the same situation with your real-life wife Susanne, would you kiss her on the cheek?” Hrithik said he was “floored by her logic” and then kissed her as “real-life couples would in the situation. On the lips.”

Roshan Sr recently told HT Cafe that Barbara’s job was over, so she was back in Mexico, and she would not visit India until later in the year to promote the film. Now with this Cannes appearance, was he worried the rumours might spring to life? “Nope”, stated Pa Roshan. “Why should there be speculation? She is a dear friend, a very fine actress and our whole family loves her,” he said emphatically.

Who is Barbara Mori?

Barbara Mori Ochoa is a 31-year-old actress-cum-model, born February 2, 1978 and is part Uruguayan-Japanese and Mexican. Kenya Mori and Kintaro Mori are her siblings. Kintaro accompanies his sister on her trips to India is in the news for his alleged liason with actress Kangana Ranaut. The actress now lives in Mexico with her ten-year-old son Sergio, her love child with then partner actor Sergio Mayer.

Barbara has starred in sitcoms, telenovelas and films. In 2005, she was seen in commercially successful film La mujer de mi hermano and Pretendiendo which was declared a dud. She will soon be seen in Rakesh Roshan’s Kites opposite Hrithik Roshan and has been filmed in New Mexico, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
