It was the moment everyone had been waiting for — the royal kiss. But when it finally came, one little flower girl stole the show. As Prince William leaned to kiss his bride in the balcony of Buckingham Palace, three-year-old Grace van Cutsem, the new Duke of Cambridge’s goddaughter, covered her ears, leaned on the ledge and stared grumpily at the crowd.
Even as Kate later tried to calm her down with a kiss, insiders say the little bridesmaid was so disturbed by the sound of the 500,000 people standing outside the gates of the palace that she was unnerved.
Ever since, the little girl has become a sensation online, with newspaper editorials comparing her reaction to the morning-after mood of the people.
Overnight, Grace became an instant Internet sensation with blogs like Jezebel and Buzzfeed asking readers to morph Grace’s grumpy picture onto other celebrity photographs and upload them. Soon, frowning Grace could be seen in photos of celebs ranging from Donald Trump to Charlie Sheen. Within hours, eight Facebook groups sprang up in her name, with some calling her ‘the world’s most annoying bridesmaid’.
