This winter season, coloured nails, fur highlights and ‘hair’ straightening are hot fashion trends for pooches. “Delhiites love to see their pets differently. Other than normal bath, ear cleaning and nail clipping, they also go for aromatherapy, massages and highlighted hair,” says Preeti Sanjeev Kumar of Scooby Scrub. “We get 4-5 clients per months for nail colouring, too.”
“It was Casper’s fifth birthday when we took him for ear cleaning and nail clipping. I also got his hair straightened. He looked so different that my mother mistook it to be some other dog,” says Era Sharma of Bal Bharti Public School. “Because of winter, people prefer long hair on their pets. We do have some regular customers who come almost every Sunday to get their pet washed,” says Satish Verma of Pet Aids.
Fur highlights, which cost Rs 1,000-2,000, are a huge hit this year. “They are usually done on breeds with long hair, such as Airedale terrier and Blue Kerry. People love to use bright hair colours, mainly, pink, red or green,” claims Preeti.
“The city is always famous for its fashion trends. It’s also nice to see people involving their pets with it,” says Verma. As for side effects of these treatments, Dr Vishal Sharma says, “There won’t be any harm if the colouring agents are of good quality. But due to intensive licking habit, sometimes, dogs might be allergic to certain elements.”
