It’s a busy weekday afternoon in bustling New York and here I am sitting in a blanket in Central Park with a picnic basket filed to the brim and my cousins for company. Doesn’t sound like me... does it? Trust me that’s only the beginning!
I’ve been in NYC shooting for
and I think it was the combination of the weather (very cold), the season (X’mas and New Year), a great crew, creatively enriching work and the energy of New York that has transported me to another world. I have quite literally stepped out of myself for a change and decided to just be... to go with the flow... with no agenda or plan for the day and just take things as they came. And let me tell you... it’s one of the wisest decisions I have made in a long time! Over the past couple of weeks, I have been doing so many things... some new... some that I’ve been wanting to for a long time and some that I just haven’t given time to before!
It started with reconnecting with my passion for reading.... multiple transatlantic flights in a short span (I returned to India from NYC for 3 days) gave me a reason to start on the books I’ve been buying but not reading! Once I started, there was no stopping me. With my favourite music blasting in my ears, coffee in hand... I devoured one book after another... the author or the genre did not matter, every free moment was a page turning opportunity!
And then came the movies... I caught up with all the recent releases that I missed and once I finished that list, I started a new one of all the films I’ve been wanting to see for the longest time. It was almost like my very own ‘film festival’! However, by far one of my most memorable experiences has to be the play that I went to see... William Shakespeare’s As you Like It, directed by the hugely talented Sam Mendes! It was superb! I haven’t seen a play in such a long time and I had completely forgotten how much I loved the whole experience and it was just so amazing that I was instantly able to rekindle my love for theatre.
All of this heavy activity was interspersed with my moments of nothing-ness... my ‘just like that’ walks in Manhattan and my sojourns through Central Park! It has been close to a month now that I’ve been living this life and I have to say that it has been a very liberating experience! I have quite literally rediscovered myself and I’m loving every minute! A great start to the new year... what say? How has the new year been treating you?
