Ranveer Singh is full of energy. There’s never a dull moment when you meet the 29-year-old actor, who is ready to begin work on his next film, in which he’s paired alongside rumoured girlfriend, Deepika Padukone. Ranveer speaks out strongly in her favour when it comes to the cleavage controversy that’s creating a storm.
What’s your take on the controversy surrounding Deepika Padukone’s pictures?
I already spoke about it on Twitter. I said what I had to say about it; it’s my opinion. She published her final word on it. What’s said is said, and what’s done is done. I have zero tolerance for any disrespect towards any woman — in a small way, big way or any way. That’s just the way I have been raised. As Deepika’s friend, I’m very proud of her because she stood up against something, which in my opinion was wrong. And what was very heartening and delightful to see was the amount of support she got from all corners. She did that and I was very happy with the way it turned out. I think she spoke from her heart and put out what was in her gut on that post. I think now we should focus on her work. She’s got an amazing movie coming up and I think it’s quite kickass!
Your cameo in Finding Fanny has people in splits. Helps that your alleged girlfriend was your co-star?
Oh! It was a four-second cameo. Who’s my girlfriend, by the way? You’ve decided a girlfriend for me. I always maintain that I’m single.
Why maintain you’re single when people in the industry have slowly started to open up about relationships?
Okay, I’m telling you I’m single.
Okay, are you in love with someone?
Am I in love with someone? That’s for me to know (laughs).

Fine, what’s happening with you and Deepika (Padukone)?
What’s up? We’re doing a movie together!
So all these holidays that you’ll have apparently gone on together and other stuff that’s spoken and reported, what about it all?
What do busy actors do apart from work? Nothing! Actors, in today’s day and age, wake up in the morning, work, go to sleep. That’s my life.
So you’re not in love with Deepika?
I don’t have the option (of being in love). It’s my choice to live my life the way I’m living it. I’m completely devoted to my work, as I should be in this phase of my life. I’m doing the best of work. I don’t have a personal life or the time for myself. I’m happy this way.
You don’t wish to clarify anything?
There’s nothing to clarify…I’m single.
Right, so what’s your equation with Deepika?
Deepika is a very special person in my life. She’s somebody who I admire a lot. I admire her talent, and the way she goes about her life as a professional. Having worked with her in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013), you have to see it to believe it, the way she works, she’s meticulous, organised, able to multi-task, able to switch one role to another effortlessly and work hard tirelessly. During Goliyon…, she was also simultaneously juggling between Chennai Express (2013, CE) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013, YJHD). I could not have possibly done something like that. We worked on it for a year and to do essentially double shifts like that is superhuman. For instance, during Nagada Sang Dhol, she was promoting YJHD all day and then coming in the night and performing the song, which is crazy. She doesn’t like to draw attention to, ‘Dekho main kitna hard work kar rahi hoon’. If you see her performance in Finding Fanny (2014), I think it’s incredible. It’s so effortless that you don’t feel like you’re watching somebody perform. To not act and to just be, is a very advanced level of performance.
