If you watch TV and enjoy the American medical-drama, Grey’s Anatomy, chances that are you’ve seen Anushka Manchanda perform the show’s theme song on the tube. “The channel was looking for a female musician to write and produce a song for the promo. Meredith Grey, the show’s lead character, deals with several predicaments on a daily basis. The channel wanted that aspect to come through in the song,” says Anushka, who composed the track, ‘What would you do’, along with her band Shkabang’s guitarist, Pozy Dhar.

Featuring prominent guitar and an evocative string section, the rock song also sends out a message. “It talks about how life is tough sometimes and there are always ups and downs, but you know what? You’re not alone. Here’s someone who’s just like you,” says Anushka.
The video features shots of Meredith and moments from the show inter-cut with visuals of the band’s performance. “Shiraz Bhattacharya, the director and producer of the video, has kept it simple and clean,” says Anushka.

Ask her who her favourite character from the show is and she says, “I can’t pick one! All the characters add a certain flavour to it. The show would be incomplete without any of them.”

Currently, the singer is looking forward to recording an album with her electro-pop outfit, Shkabang. “The skeletons of the tracks are ready, and we’re writing new material for every gig. We’ll pick the best of the lot. As of now, we’re playing a non-stop electro dance set.” Touring with the band is high on the list too. “Shkabang will be playing in Pune soon. I have some shows lined up in Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai too,” says Anushka, who made her musical debut as part of Viva, India’s first girl band that was founded on a reality show in 2002.
