Living up to her reputation of being outspoken, Sonam Kapoor says that she doesn’t care what people say about her. The actor explains that her mantra in life is to “have thick skin and keep lugging forward”.

“Be unapologetically yourself. Dress the way you want to dress, say what you want to say, do what you want to do. I’ve done that. And honestly, a lot of people criticised me for it, but I’m still standing. So, f**k them. Revel in the fact that you can be beautiful and men can’t. Do not try to be something you’re not. That’s all I want to say,” says Sonam.

She even seems unperturbed by the growing competition in the industry, stressing, “I think competing with other people is very detrimental to your art. Honestly, I’m somebody who doesn’t… I don’t give a s**t! I really don’t give a s**t.”

The actor, who considers herself her biggest competitor, says that for her, the primary aim is to become better than the last film she did. “It’s not about, ‘Oh, I want their film,’ or ‘Oh my God! She can’t do this film,’ or all of that bull s**t. That’s really harmful to yourself. You need to have blinders on if you need to be successful in life or even leave a mark. You can’t be looking left or right because you’ll lose the race. You can’t look behind either,” she emphasises.

Sonam Kapoor seldom talks about her personal life. She prefers to keep the matters of the heart private. Ask her if we will ever get to hear about the man in her life, and Sonam says, “I’ll never talk about my personal life.”

The actor has chosen not to reveal her relationship status either. Is she single or seeing someone? Sonam says, “I think this is something that I need to keep private. It’s my personal space, and it’s not something I’d want to discuss. It (not divulging much) has helped me keep my head high up till now.”

Point out to her that there are several actors who are open about their ‘private lives’, and she quips, “Maybe it works for them, or maybe it makes them feel more desirable… but I have a pretty good reputation, and it’s because I’ve kept my personal life to myself.”
