Katrina Kaif wouldn’t have ever expected her Bollywood career to be better than this. The woman who stepped into the film industry with no godfather and without any knowledge of Hindi has proved that if there’s a number game in the industry, then she is close to top the list. HT City caught up with the Singh is Kinng actress, in a telephonic conversation, during her shooting schedule in Philadelphia for her next project, for Yash Raj Films.

“I don’t have 10 minutes… I only have five minutes. Shoot,” said Katrina.<b1>

How does it feel to be number one?
Oh… I don’t believe in the whole number game. I like to be pleasantly surprised over a success than pre-empt a film by brooding too much about it.

Once you take a stand like that, then one is caught up chasing those figures. All the time you’d be busy working your mind on who said this and who said that… It’s all bullshit. It takes your mind away from the real thing. I’d rather concentrate and do my films and my endorsements. I’d sustain what I can. I think this is the best strategy.

Comment on the buzz that you have replaced the reigning queen Aishwarya Rai.
No. I guess any comparison would be unfair to her. She is a much more experienced actress than me.

Singh is Kinng becomes your fourth hit in a row. How does it feel?
Every film is like your baby. But Singh is Kinng is special for two reasons. First, it is Vipul Shah’s first production, and I knew it would be very crucial for him. Second, it’s a joint production of Akshay Kumar’s banner, Hari Om Production.

You debuted with the box-office disaster Boom. Were you insecure about your career?<b2>
I have been fortunate to find the right people from the very beginning of my career. From films with Salman Khan to Akshay, I got to learn a lot. I got the opportunity to work with the best of filmmakers, too. Now I am working in films with Raj Kumar Santoshi, David Dhawan and then Prakash Jha. What more can one ask for?

People know little about your personal life…
My world revolves around my kid sister Isabel. She is my jaan. She is studying right now. I am like any regular person. My schedules keep me away from my family so often — whenever I get time, it’s strictly for family. And I am so looking forward to my vacation in December. I will be with my family, back home in London. But till then, I have three films to complete, and that’s too much.

What are you planning to do during the break?
I am going to just veg out. It is a state of mind when you are brainless. It’s so therapeutic to indulge in brainless activities — like watching TV, shopping, chatting, eating... basically just doing nothing.

You were recently voted as the sexiest woman. What’s the secret behind your hour-glass figure and looks?
Nothing. Ask my mom, I just inherited it from her. I just eat right and light. I don’t like being thin anyway. So I never count calories.

How do you deal with rumours? And the news about the brawl between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan…
Every time there’s a new rumour, I want to know first who has said what about me. These are ordinary things. But, no seriously, I hate it when people quarrel. Why does anyone have to fight? I think there’s always a way out.
