I have no ambition to be the No 1 heroine, says Isha

entertainment Updated: Jan 12, 2009 18:46 IST

Actress Isha Sharvani in a tete' a tete' with Nikhil Taneja about her single' status and forthcoming flick Luck By Chance with Hrithik Roshan.

You are playing a star kid in Luck By Chance. Have you modelled the role on anyone?
(Smiles) No, I don’t know any star kids.

Hrithik Roshan and Farhan Akhtar, your co-stars, are star kids.
No, they are not! (Pauses) They are not star kids, they are just.. lovely people. Besides, I didn’t really know them before the film.

So how did you prepare for your role?
Being a star kid isn’t generic.. they all aren’t the same. In any case, Zoya (Akhtar) guided me through endless rehearsals.

Do star kids have it easier?
(Thinks) To a certain extent, yes. They get the initial break but there are too many expectations from them. (Laughs) The good thing about being an outsider is that there are no expectations from me.

After three years, are you still an outsider?
(Pause) I don’t know if I’m a part of the industry.. and I don’t think about it either. I want to do a lot more than dance and act. I want to help preserve our country’s art and culture by spreading awareness and taking my dance shows to the IITs and IIMs.

Since you’re into dance shows, are movies being neglected?
For me, success means a life well spent. I’d rather have one good movie than 10 Louis Vuitton bags in my cupboard. I have no ambition to be the No. 1 heroine.

Okay.. so what made you do the tiny role in U, Me aur Hum then?
(Pause) I guess I wanted to see and act with Kajol up close.

You are working with Hrithik Roshan for a second time after an ad.
(Lights up) Yes.. this time we’ve done a very over-the-top, Indian circus dance. It’s full of colour.

Who is the better dancer?
(Thinks) Hrithik. He’s definitely the better dancer in films, he’s been trained for it. (Laughs) But he certainly can’t do what I can.

Do you ever give tips to choreographers?
I can never be audacious enough to tell a choreographer what to do.

Is it true that you aren’t with Zaheer Khan any more?
(Smile vanishes) Yes. I’m single now.. but I don’t want to say anything more about that person.

Would you ever date a cricketer again?
I don’t know. I’m waiting to meet someone right now.. but that doesn’t mean jo bhi aayega, I’ll say chalo, chalo.

There were rumours that you were seeing Mukul Deora.
That was the most stupid piece of rubbish I have read. How can I be paired with a guy I don’t even know?

What next?
I have co-directed an Indian opera kind of dance show with my father, and have also co-choreographed it with my mother. It premieres on April 3 in Mumbai. We’ve performed it across the world.. but are finally performing in India.
