Don’t be surprised if you find actor Preity Zinta in Parliament one day. The actor, who was in Delhi on Wednesday to receive the Young Woman’s Achiever Award, says she is so ashamed of Indian netas that she may join politics herself.
“People like me and others would want to go into politics for no other reason but to be proud of our country. I feel ashamed when I see MPs behaving the way they do, in Parliament,” says the
38-year-old. She won’t be headed in that direction anytime soon, though. “I may join politics at a later stage in my life. Not because I want power but only because I want to make a difference to this country,” clears Preity, who hails from a family of armymen. The actor, also the co-owner of her T20 team Kings XI Punjab, believes India is in dire need of good leadership. "This is the time we need good leadership. I think the only time we saw it was during Independence. I don’t want to point fingers because it’s very easy to speak from the other side, but there are a lot of women in politics and yet there are so many issues women are having to face."
What she is not worrying about, however, are reports around her upcoming film Ishkq in Paris finding no distributors. “We’re going about it the way we want to, and not caring how it’s being written about. We’ll be announcing the film’s release date soon,” she says calmly. Preity also misses not having players who were on her team in the first edition of the T20 tournament.
“I’d be lying if I say I don’t miss my team from the first edition. Purely because the first time anything ever happens in your life is always the most impactful. Yuvraj (Singh, with whom she was romantically linked), was my first player ... he is like a … I don’t like to say a younger brother because I don’t need to define a platonic friendship. He is somebody I love very dearly,” she says fondly.
