Two-time National Award-winning actor Tabu is known to be a recluse but there is much more to her, she claims. During a recent visit to the Capital, the 41-year-old spoke about things close to her heart and whether she maintains a low profile on purpose. “If there is a film…if there is a project that I am doing which is worthy of being talked about, I am comfortable talking. I am not closed, and I am not too open either,” she said.
The actor, who has been in the industry for almost two decades, said that she has seen the industry change especially in the way stars are being branded and managed by their publicists. Tabu, who at this point of her career only believes in working with the right people and something that is worth her time, said, “It is very different from what I have seen. I don’t know if I can relate to this. I don’t think a publicist can tell me how to behave. I mean they can tell the younger lot. But if you really want to be in sync with everything, then you have to do what everyone else is doing.”
Speaking about the younger generation of actors, the veteran said, “Everyone these days is so competent, confident, and focussed. That is something that sets them apart from the earlier generations. They are very clear about what they want. They are sure of themselves.”
On her take on reaching out to the public through social media platforms like Twitter, the way other celebrities are doing, she said, “I might join Twitter. All my friends are on it. Maybe slowly I will also join the gang.” Ask her what she feels about Delhi, the actor is quick to respond, “I love Delhi. I have great memories of this city as I’ve friends here. I love the layout of the place. Food toh everywhere is good.”
I don’t think I have a style statement. I love a pair of jeans as it suits me a lot...never goes out of fashion
