. And no, it’s not a verbal atyachaar.

Which are the Bollywood movies you watched while growing up in Pondicherry?

My parents are unconventional.. so I grew up on movies like

Bandit Queen

,

Anjali

, Satyajit Ray’s

The Music Room, Salaam Bombay

and

Monsoon Wedding

.

Did you aspire to act all along?

Absolutely!

Bandit Queen

was my inspiration. I still want to play a strong leader role like that.Throughout school, I would take part in drama festivals regularly. I studied theatre in London for three years too.<b2>

Why didn’t you try out French films?

I’d love to do French films but I haven’t thought of it so far because my base is in India. I missed India too much when I studied in London. And also, my French accent has become Indian now. (Laughs) In France, they think I’m Indian and in India, they think I’m French.

So what kind of offers are you getting?

(Laughs) Bikini shoots in Thailand for 10 days. Probably because I look like a foreigner and I played a prostitute in

Dev D

. But some interesting scripts are coming in and I hope to play strong woman characters. Not just the ‘love interest’. Until then, I’ll be touring for my play,

The Skeleton Woman.

Where do you see yourself fitting in?

(Smiles) Yeah, usually foreigners play the girls with loose morals. But there are people like Vishal Bharadwaj, Shekhar Kapur, Dibakar Banerjee, Navdeep Singh and Nishikant Kamat.. whom I’m a fan of and who direct intelligent, unconventional movies.

Even if I don’t get lead roles from them, I’ll take it.. I’m not trying to be a Katrina Kaif. I don’t think I can dance to begin with! But I do need to improve my Hindi before that. I’m also looking forward to

Happy Ending

with Anurag.

What about Anurag Kashyap inspired you during his tough times?

His honesty. He’s just completely transparent and honest, which is so rare. Also, he has this tendency to be really light-hearted and humourous.. in spite of his dark reputation. He lightens up my life.

The sexiest thing about him is..?

..That he has no idea that when people are looking at him, they think he’s wonderful. He has no clue how nice he is.. That’s sexy!

Tell us one thing about him no one knows.

I don’t know how he can have such a good ear for music and yet, he is the worst singer on earth. You can’t imagine how badly he sings.. it’s painful.
