She may owe her current celebrity status to her stint in the television show, Shanti, but Mandira Bedi says people hardly recognise her as an actress anymore.
“People have forgotten I’m an actress. They remember me as an anchor or a host. I don’t get a single call for television shows and Bollywood has no idea what to do with me,” she quips, adding that she gets a lot of calls asking her to do item numbers.
“It’s amazing how many item number offers I get from the Southern Film industry. If Mani Ratnam offers me an item number, I’ll consider it, but otherwise, it’s a strict no,” she says. “I don’t see a point doing films with small banners — you don’t get your money,” she adds.
Bedi, who’s one of the contestants on the second season of the Colors show, Khatron Ke Khiladi Level 2, says she’s always had an adventurous streak.
“I keep changing my look. I’m not conservative — I don’t look the way typical Indian women are supposed to look. I am also ready for my next tattoo — it’ll be on my neck.”
She does confess, though, that she regrets the Maxim cover shoot, where she posed in a bikini two years ago. “A part of me did regret it. I saw the offer as something different. It was experimental for me and I’ve never been shot like that.
Unfortunately, it backfired a little bit,” she says before signing off.
