Actor Asin, who prefers to stay off social media, recently discovered that an imposter had created an account under her name on Twitter and started interacting with her actor friends.

Actors Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh had almost believed that the fake handle was hers, but after interacting a couple of times, they realised it was fake.

“Confusion arose when Asin’s friends started calling her up to check if she had joined Twitter,” says a source close to the actor.

Riteish, to save Asin’s fans from following the handle, even tweeted on May 11, “Asin is not on twitter — so all accounts claiming to be her are fake. #JustFYI (sic).”

Though the person who was interacting with the stars through this fake handle deleted the account soon after Riteish alerted people, there are a couple of other accounts claiming to be hers, which are active on the micro-blogging site.

When contacted, Asin confirmed this incident, saying, “I am not on any social networking site and will make a formal announcement whenever I do decide to join one. Meanwhile, I request my fans to not encourage these random fake accounts and handles.”
