Technical glitches in plenty at the Max Stardust Awards.

The Max Stardust Awards flagged off on a positive note but soon ran into too many embarrassing technical glitches. The display screens on stage went blank in the middle of an award segment and stayed that way till the end. The stage stayed empty for nearly 50 minutes. Curtains came down at 10 pm sharp but only after a number of acts, including a magic show, were cancelled.

Stand-up comedy
Dia Mirza and Vivek Oberoi, the hosts for the evening, had the enviable responsibility of holding the show together. Backstage, Oberoi sighed, “We had so many things planned but nothing seems to be working. Maybe some stand-up comedy can keep the audience laughing.”

A 100-odd event
managers were running helter-skelter across the MMRDA Grounds at the Bandra-Kurla Complex during the 50-minute
hold-up. Guests were threatening to leave.

Behind the stage, video content was being hurriedly deleted. Emcees were asked to just announce all the nominations. On stage, a few new playback singers took charge and kept the audience entertained, free of cost!

Win-win situation
Amitabh Bachchan arrived with his parivar an hour after the show started. Rekha vamoosed after accepting her Lifetime Achievement Award without making eye contact with ‘Him’. Rishi Kapoor collected the awards on behalf of his son Ranbir, then disappeared into the men’s room.

Kareena Kapoor, who won two awards, got her first congratulatory hug from good friend Karan Johar even before she stepped down from the stage.

She almost came face-to-face with former ‘good friend’ Shahid Kapoor inside the media room. But the lady was quickly whisked away before any sparks flew. Saif Ali Khan was also around at the time, having a backslapping conversation with Gulshan Grover and Aditya Panscholi.

Vanity first
Oomung Kumar, the man behind the stage décor and performance designs, was busy with the props till the last minute. He was given a tiny vanity van. There were at least 50 such vans parked behind the stage. Vivek Oberoi’s was the biggest.

Among the performers, Shahid, Kareena and Saif and Katrina (Kaif) got the thumbs up. Between performances, Kareena Kapoor encountered Katrina Kaif. The two actresses tried to look through each other but eventually a few snide remarks were exchanged. Phew, all in all an eventful evening, backstage!
