Indira Gandhi award for Rahman

The Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration for the year 2009 has been awarded jointly to music maestro A.R. Rahman and the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Narainpur for their services in promoting and preserving national integration.

The award, comprising a citation and Rs.2.5 lakh, will be presented by Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Oct 31, the death anniversary of former prime minister Indira Gandhi.

The award was instituted by the Congress in 1985 to give recognition to distinguished persons for outstanding contribution to the cause of national integration.
