Can you brief us on the area of activities of ECIL and its product profile?

ECIL, established in 1967 under the department of atomic energy, had the primary objective to support the country’s nascent nuclear power programme. Over the years, ECIL consolidated its operations towards select strategic sectors of the economy.  Presently our major product streams including control and instrumentation packages and radiation detectors and monitoring systems for atomic energy sector, radio communication systems, etc Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) is another important product that we produce serving the electoral process in the country.

Can you recall specific technological achievements in the last two years?

Amongst many, three specific accomplishments come to my mind. One was the commissioning of the prestigious 32 Meter DSN Network Antenna at Bangalore which supported telemetry, command and science data reception functions during the recent Chandrayaan-I mission- India's maiden flight to the moon. ECIL is also proud to be associated with the Brahmos missile program.

What is ECIL's role in the nuclear sector?

ECIL has been supporting the Country's Atomic Energy Programme as mandated during its formation and supported all the 17 Nuclear Reactors in the Country through its Control & Instrumentation equipment.

What are the challenges ahead?

Foremost are the technology and business linked challenges. While the opportunities are huge and awaiting takers, it is important that we handle them in a professional way.
