Britney SpearsWhile singer Britney Spears, with over 49 lakh 73 thousand followers on Twitter, has snatched the crown from actor Ashton Kutcher (who has 49 lakh 58 thousand) to become the world’s most popular celebrity on Twitter, our Indian celeb Twitter icons stand nowhere in comparison.

Actor Shah Rukh Khan leads the pack of Bollywood icons with maximum followers, with the star reaching the 4 lakh followers mark on Tuesday, and in the process getting congratulated by actor Amitabh Bachchan, who tweeted, “Shah Rukh congrats !! you crossed 400,000 .. meri gaadi thoda dheeli chal rahi hai.

SRK did not lag behind in self congratulations as he tweeted, “hey thanx all 400,000 & more of u, soon v can start our own small country.” The Indian with the maximum numbers of followers on Twitter continues to be MP Shashi Tharoor, with over 7.5 lakh followers in his kitty.

Despite Indian celebs lagging behind international Twitter icons, the number of followers continues to weigh heavy on their minds. Recently, when due to a technical glitch, the number of followers went down to zero, actor Salman Khan tweeted, “0 thingy shattered egos. I’m glad with 0 followers! N hope all from my industry are okay as well.”
