For a change, Thursday marked the most important day in the life of Vivek Oberoi. Reason being the string of functions for his wedding with Priyanka Alva in Bengaluru. Soon after paying respects at the Paritala Ravi memorial in Ananthpur, that he visited because he played the late politician in Rakht Charitra, the actor headed to the Alva residence where the ceremonies have already started.
The actor is believed to have shaved off his moustache, as Priyanka reportedly doesn’t like it too much. All this while, he was sporting the mooch (moustache) for promoting his recently released film. However, for the second part of the movie, which opens in the cinemas on November 19, Oberoi will be going around sporting his clean-shaven look.
The sangeet ceremony is aptly called Vivanka, a combination of Vivek’s and Priyanka’s names. The Alva residence has been done up in a chic and classy manner, with exquisite flowers and lights. Twelve girls from Project Devi, the actor’s cause for educating under-privileged, performed a special musical skit for their Vivek bhaiyya.Master percussionist, Sivamani also enthralled the gathering with his spellbinding performance. Needless to say, the Alva and Oberoi clans also took to the dance floor with abundant enthusiasm… and did the bhangra as songs from Saathiya, Prince and other films were played for the musical evening.
Designer duo Rahul Khanna-Rohit Gandhi has created the groom’s outfit for the musical evening. “In accordance with the theme, we’ve given Vivek a blue sherwani with gold brocade woven in Banaras; the handwork is contemporary. The sherwani is slightly short with a new kind of Patiala salwar.
Overall, the idea was to have a blue-copper colour combination,” said Khanna, adding that they have done the Oberoi family’s outfits for the reception as well. The duo has also designed Vivek’s bandhgala jackets, which he’s wearing at the parties these days. Tarun Tahiliani has designed the wedding outfits for the bride and groom.
Although Oberoi had invited almost everyone in Bollywood for his special day, other than Salman Khan, only Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Sushmita Sen are said to have confirmed their presence for the ceremony today evening.
Priyanka’s mother, Nandini Alva, gifted a sarpech (head feather for his turban) to the actor, to be worn on the wedding day. While it is learnt that this turban ornament was specially ordered from Jaipur, the most extravagant thing about the Friday wedding is the mandap being adorned with 25,000 Swarovski crystals.
