Most remember the late Madhavrao Scindia as an iconic statesman and someone who symbolised a perfect blend of royal heritage and modern vision. But what some don’t know is that the man was also an avid sports enthusiast who passionately worked towards the development of sports such as: cricket and golf. The event shall take place at the par 72 DLF Course, the same championship course that was recognised as the ‘Best Golf Course in South Asia’ at the Asia Pacific Golf Summit Awards for 2008 and 2009, in Kuala Lampur.

Hailing the late Scindia as a visionary, Union Minister Farooq Abdullah said, “Mr Madhavrao Scindia was a dynamic leader whose vision and foresight was remarkable. As a leader and thinker, he was far-ahead of his time and many of the projects that he initiated were far reaching in their scope and impact. He was also an avid sportsman and it is only fitting that a golf tournament is being organised in his memory. I look forward to taking part in the event.

I wish the tournament all success.” Pankaj Munjal, Managing Director, Hero Motors, said “We are proud to be associated with the Madhavrao Scindia Foundation as it is based on his spirit and leadership values.” Echoing his views, another participant Rohit Relan, Managing Director, Bharat Seats, added, “Mr Scindia loved the game of golf, so we feel the fund raising that the foundation undertakes around this tournament is a natural association and we are happy to be a part of it.”

Aakash Ohri, Director, DLF Golf Resorts, the hosts of the foundation’s annual event, said, “The DLF Golf course is proud that the foundation is returning to our course for their annual tournament. It is DLF’s belief to be associated with individuals and organisations that share our values of excellence. We welcome all guests and will present them with a facility to match the best in Asia.”

The format for this year’s event is ‘Skins’ where there’s a prize on each hole in a group of four. Former skipper Kapil Dev said that he was looking forward to the tournament, and added, “The Skins format is exciting as there is a lot of pressure when you need to hole a shot to tie a skin.”
