Film actress Manisha Koirala, who has been away from the media for a long time, is back! Playing the role of a journalist in forthcoming film Anwar, Manisha reveals what she thinks about the profession and what turned her from an atheist to a firm believer in God.

You are back after a long time. Where were you all these years?
I was in New York to study filmmaking at the University of New York University. It was a two-year hiatus. I am trying my hand at direction. I am already working on a couple of projects.

How do you rate your experience in Nepal?
In New York I learnt to do many things on my own. In India, stars and film producers get spoilt due to too much pampering and super ego. Therefore, they forget to do many things. But in New York, I learnt the nuances and creative side of film direction. All directors here are not well versed in the art of film direction.

What are your plans for future?
I want to be selective about the work that I undertake and do films in which I am well represented and in which my talent gets every opportunity to blossom. But I want to do decent only films.

Are you still an atheist?
Earlier I was logic-oriented person. But now I am a firm believer in God.

You were in Pakistan recently. How do you rate the film industry there?
The Lollywood industry is indeed very small. I don't know if there are too many creative openings for Indian stars. I am set to fly back to Pakistan again with Bollywood biradari for the Pakistani premiere of Taj Mahal.

Is this your first visit to Lucknow?
No. I am no alien to the region. I have studied in Benares at Vasant Kanya Mahavidyalaya till class X. I have visited Lucknow several times. It is beautiful city and its language is indeed aristocratic.

What is your forthcoming film Anwar  all about?
It centers on a Muslim boy and how one wrong gets multiplied. I am playing the role of a journalist. The film also depicts how media sometimes overplays incidents.

What opinion do you hold of journalists?
Some journalists are nasty and very bad while a large majority is good. I play the role of a journalist in Anwar. I have come across so many journalists in my life, both good and bad, that I am confident enough to play the character very well.
