Even when he sees you from a distance, he smiles, acknowledging your presence in the room. He’s judged two reality shows before this but he says they were different from the one he’s part of right now. Kailash Kher seems on another high if you mention his song Love sex aur dhokha darling and Dibakar Bannerjee. Most reality show contestants seem directionless after the show ends. Wonder what the Teri deewani and Allah ke bande singer has to say:
I feel like a rock star
I will be performing on every episode of IPL Rockstar. It’s such a high because I have never performed for a live audience in a cricket stadium. The concept of the show drew me to it. We’re travelling from one city to another and conducting the show on a ground full of music and cricket lovers. I’m sure it can make anyone nervous. But when I perform, I feel like a rock star. When I find the audience humming the song with me, swaying when I sing, or even jumping up and down when I’m on stage, I know my journey to the stage was worth it.
Cricket is a passion
In India, people follow a lot of things in a big way — Bollywood films, music, politics and cricket among others. When we combine two of these elements, you can expect fireworks on your TV screen. I am confident the show will do well because it’s different from every musical reality show in the genre. Endemol has done a commendable job of entering a cricket stadium and shooting a reality show in 45 minutes flat.
We will do an album
I miss Naresh and Paresh Kamath, my partners in Kailasa and my dearest friends. They are not on this show because it was not logistically possible to include them. But that doesn’t alter our association. We still do our concerts. We enjoy making music in our premises. We’re just waiting for the right time to cut our next album. Our last album is still on top of the charts. We want people to pick up our next album.
Reality show, real work
I agree there are several reality shows on air throughout the year. The contestants on my current show are a mix from previous reality shows. I think that everyone has utilised the platform they got. When I started out in 2000, there was no concept of a show that could make you into a star, a singer, a model and a celebrity overnight. But today there are. Youngsters make use of these platforms and they all have work to do today. They’re either doing albums or they’re into stage shows. I know a lot of reality show contestants whose albums didn’t click. The reason may be that they have not changed with the changing times. It’s important to keep the pace to make your album a success.
